Living Proud & Out Loud

The smiles were infectious Saturday night. But it was this woman who started it all? MY GIRL Faye-Faye! She was elegantly cheesing all night long as she silkily rolled vowels and consonants off her tongue as one of the emcees for this wonderful event. It was simply one of those nights—The 28th Annual Mile High Human Rights Campaign Gala @humanrightscampaign was electric! I loved how friends, family and even strangers came together with ease to have an incredibly good time with one another. I heard conversations about people in the room and those who were not. #HoneyHush LOL

It was a “gumbo” of a conversation, rich with a tastefully thick, comical roux that was filled with laughter and ribbing. The convo got so good, we took it to the bar after the program concluded. Who knew club soda could be so good so late! It felt good to be with my straight and LGBTQ brothas & sistahs living in the moment.

When you drop the mask and peel away the facade, the “REAL” you shows up and shines every time. It was so sweet watching so many people relax in themselves. Sharing their stories, and embracing the mission of the Human Rights Campaign. Even the breakout star of the movie “Love Simon,” Clark Moore was joyful in sharing his journey. As my momma used to say, “…Make ya mess ya message!” It works every time. As usual, momma was right.

All in all, in the midst of this nasty cultural climate where there is so much division, so much distrust and so much disrespect, living proud and out loud was breathtakingly beautiful…if only for one night.

Just Getting My Bearings

Ok everybody in the digital blog world, I’m back! Trying to put both feet on the ground after a world-wind first half of 2019. Honey Hush is on this platform — everything from stories, interviews, opinions and whatever else tickles my toes that I want to share with you. So hold on to your spanks …or let ’em go (depending on your girth) and let’s take this journey.

I am so thankful for New York transplants, Floyd and Stephanie Rance who are the guiding light behind Run & Shoot Filmworks and the Annual Color of Conversation Film Festival taking place July 18-20th at the June Swaner Gates Concert Hall at the Newman Center for the Performing Arts at the University of Denver. In its 17th year, the film festival created by this dynamic duo on Martha’s Vineyard has also set up shop in the Mile High City. The goal–to nurture the conversation surrounding the African American experience. Click the link and find out what’s next. http://colorofconversation.com/

For all of my Tom Clancy fiends, Denver’s own world warrior Lt. Col. Ripley Rawlings has collaborated with Tom Clancy’s co-writer and New York Times Bestselling Author Mark Greaney to pen another potential blockbuster “RED METAL” now in stores. And believe me when I tell you, you won’t be able to put this one down. Here’s a sample. https://riprawlings.com/

If you don’t have “hard” plans for the weekend, head up to WinterPark for the 37th Annual WinterPark Jazz Festival. Be advised, you might want to dance like somebody is watching…because they will be! LOL . Check out this year’s lineup.
